Class News- Autumn 2017

Willow Class have had a great start to the year and all the children have begun to settle in really well. We've had lots of opportunities for the children to make new friends and get used to being part of Holmesdale.

We have spent time getting to know the children and encouraging them to share with us things they like and dislike and encouraging them to use the areas in the classroom independently. We have had some fabulous models made in the 'Make and Do' area as well as lots of mark-making going on in the 'Writing Corner'. The children this year have particularly enjoyed being outside and are all trying hard to be independent and put on their own coats and wellies !

All children have got a reading book which you are welcome to swap at any time. Thank-you for your support with reading at home. Please put your child's Reading Record book in their book bag at the start of each week. We will take them out and put them back as we read with your child. Please feel free to still take and swap reading books even if you don't have their Reading Record.  We have also sent home Phonics (sounds) Books and will top these up most weeks as we work through learning new sounds. It would be helpful to have their green folder in their book bags every Friday. Please practice reading and writing these sounds and begin to blend them together to make simple words. Feel free to draw and write on the sheets, they are there to help however suits you best.

For the next few weeks we will be looking at Autumn and the changes that we can see around us. We have been learning lots of songs about Autumn and Harvest and hope you can join us for the Harvest Assembly.

Spring 2017

We have had a busy half-term and have had lots of fun during our topic  'Let's Pretend'. We enjoyed dressing up as different characters on our Enrichment Day and took part in lots of activities such as puppet making, story telling and role-play.

We celebrated Chinese New Year in style with costumes, dragon dances, lantern making and tasting Chinese food. All children took part in a Chinese New Year art competition.

We have all had our first go at Rise and Shine and have enjoyed lots of new experiences such as baking, hairdressing and fitness and fun. We will be swapping groups soon and trying out new activities.

Next term Spring 2

Our topic for this term is 'Big Bugs'. We will be going on a minibeast walk and learning more about the insects that live in our local area. Why don't you have a look in your garden and see if you can find any insects?

Class News- Autumn 2016

We have really enjoyed our topic all about 'Celebrations' this term. On the first week we made spooky spells for Halloween, next we built bonfires and ate hotdogs for 'Bonfire Night'. We spent a day enjoying lots of activities to help us learn and celebrate Diwali. We tasted some curry and rice, took part in Indian dancing, drew Mendhi patterns and made Rangoli patterns with coloured rice.

We helped our friends celebrate birthdays by making and sending cards.

Finally we celebrated Christmas by joining in the school performance in Santa's Workshop, where we all pretended to be Elves and toys and playing in our Christmas post office sending lots of cards and parcels.

We had lots of fun finding out about all these different celebrations.
