Willow Class have had a great start to the year and all the children have started to settle in really well. We've had lots of opportunities for the children to make new friends and get used to being part of Holmesdale School.
We have spent time getting to know the children and encouraging them to share with us, things they like and dislike and encouraging them to use the areas in the classroom independently. We have had some fabulous models made in the 'Make and Do' area as well as lots of mark-making going on in the 'Writing Corner'. The children this year have particularly enjoyed being outside and are all trying hard to be independent and put on their own coats and wellies !
All children will soon be given a reading book which you are welcome to swap at any time. Thank-you for your support with reading at home. All children start their reading journey on PINK level books and move through the colour-bands at different paces. Please put your child's Reading Record book in their book bag at the start of each week. We will take them out and put them back as we read with your child. Please feel free to still take and swap reading books even if you don't have their Reading Record. Reading books are kept in the corridor between Willow Class and the hall. We will be focusing on Phonics for the first half term. Please practice reading and writing sounds and begin to blend them together to make simple words. If you are unsure of anything, please watch Alphablocks on BBC I player as it uses the pure sounds as taught in school. We use Jollyphonics songs to help support the childrens learning.
For the next few weeks we will be looking at Autumn and the changes that we can see around us. We will be learning lots of songs about Autumn and Harvest and hope you can join us for the Harvest Assembly.
In the next few weeks you might spot our colourful Challenge Tree ! Choose a challenge to complete at home and bring it in to show the class. You can do as many or as few challenges as you like!
If you have any worries or concerns about any aspect of school, please don't hesitate to speak to a member of staff.
