The adults who work with are: Ms O'Donnell, Mrs Attwood, Mrs Radford and Mrs Johnson.
We are all settled into life in Ash class. The children are working well together and beginning to learn the expectations and routine of a Y1 and Y2 class. The children have been enjoying the topic on castles. This will support all areas of the curriculum- from history to art, maths to technology. We will learn about the construction of the buildings as well as the lives of those inside!
We will continue with phonics everyday. Spelling tests will be on a Friday, thank you for helping your child be prepared for it.
We are following and writing instructions in English, developing correct grammar and sentence construction.
In Maths, we are investigating counting and number patterns, leading onto higher numbers and operations.
If you could ensure everything your child brings to school is labelled, we would be very grateful. As the term progresses the children will settle more but if you have any concerns please come and speak to a member of Ash staff.
The children have enjoyed the Viking topic this term. It has been a topic that has had something to interest everyone-great stories for retelling and acting out, making and creating models, artwork, boats, shields and swords, as well as great writing opportunities. The children enjoyed investigative work in Science, for example, how to keep things warm or cold.
The maths has been a challenge to all, various ways of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Although the children use practical apparatus to support learning, they are able to explain how they solve their calculation problems. We continue to develop the use of money and telling the time.
It has been an extremely busy term and everyone has settled down to working hard in all areas. They have all made great strides and talk about having a positive 'Can do' attitude.
Our topic next half term is 'Holmesdale in Bloom' so there will be a lot of outdoor activities and science experiments to master.
In Ash class we have celebrated the improvement of our reading and writing skills amongst other things. Our topic work was to do with our local area and then making boxes.
We have enjoyed finding out about how other people celebrate different festivals.
It has been interesting to visit DHFS and Stonelow to share PE with other local schools.
In the Spring term we will start with a history topic about the Vikings- lots of legends, invasions and exploring!
