Class News-

Spring 2018

The children enjoyed the snow and coped with the cold but have been making a determined effort to extend their learning.

The topic 'under/over' led to great discussion and a range of interests were followed. The children were able to do their own research- dinosaurs, caves, animals and people, just as a sample.

In Maths, the children have been looking at multiplication, repeated addition, subtraction, division, fractions and measures. There have been lots of practical activities to reinforce links between each function which we will develop in the next term.

In English we have continued to look at the grammar and purpose in writing- stories and facts. The children have enjoyed the new spelling approach and share their detective work. those who follow this at home are doing well, so thank you for your support. We will continue the current topic of 'over' for the first part of the term and reinforce the basic strategies in Maths & English for precision and confidence.

Autumn 2017

We are all settled into life in Ash class. The children are working well together and beginning to learn the expectations and routine of a Y1 and Y2 class. The children have been enjoying the topic on  castles. This will support all areas of the curriculum- from history to art, maths to technology. We will learn about the construction of the buildings as well as the lives of those inside!

We will continue with phonics everyday. Spelling tests will be on a Friday, thank you for helping your child be prepared for it.

We are following and writing instructions in English, developing correct grammar and sentence construction.

In Maths, we are investigating counting and number patterns, leading onto higher numbers and operations.

If you could ensure everything your child brings to school is labelled, we would be very grateful. As the term progresses the children will settle more but if you have any concerns please come and speak to a member of Ash staff.
