Applying for your child’s primary, infant or junior school place for September 2024

Applying for primary or infant place: If you chid was born between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020 your child will be eligible to start school in September 2024.

Apply online: You can apply online at https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/resouces/admission

between 6th November 2023 and midnight on 15th January 2024.

 

By telephone: From 9.00 am on 6th November 2023 until midnight on 15th January 2024 you can call ‘Call Derbyshire’ on 01629 533190 to apply by telephone.

On line: admissions@derbyshire.gov.uk

Applying for a Junior Place: If your child was born between 1st September 2016 and 31st August 2017 and is in their final year at infant school they will transfer to a junior school in September 2024. If you child attends a school outside Derbyshire which operates a different pattern of education and they are due to transfer primary school phase in September 2024 the following information also applies.

Please remember… You have a legal right to express a preference for which school you want your child to attend. This is not the same as being able to choose, but means that if you express a preference for a particular school and there are places available then a place should be offered at that school. However, in law there is no automatic right to place a child in any particular school and it may not be possible to offer a place at a preferred school. When applying for a school place you must apply through the council covering the area in which you live, which may not be the same as where the school is.

Changing school at other times: If you want to apply for your child to move to our school other than at the normal admission/transfer time, you can find out all you need to know on Derbyshire’s changing schools web page.

Appeals: If you are unable to get a place with us for your child, you can appeal against the decision. You can do this online and all the information you will need can be found on Derbyshire’s appeal web page (link below).
